Congregational Life at a Glance
Worship
Our community of faith gathers in the sanctuary for worship Sundays at 10:30 AM. Worship is intergenerational. Children, youth, and adults read Scripture and offer prayers. Children attend worship beginning in first grade. Childcare is provided upstairs in the nursery area during worship for children age five and younger. We observe the Lord's Supper on the first Sunday of most months.
Music
Music at Immanuel includes traditional hymns, sung anthems, and instrumental performances. Special music may vary from formal church choral music to blue grass ballads. Our adult choir leads us in worship each week. The hymn singing accompaniment and service music is provided by a fine Moller pipe organ, considered to be among the best church organs in the area.
Togetherness
We enjoy being together as a congregation. Whether gathering for our Fall Picnic, meeting for small group fellowship in homes (Hearthsiders), attending special music programs, serving lunch with Luke 14:12, or joining together with partner congregations to host the Boulevard Bolt, we find ways to spend time having fun and giving back throughout the year.
Children
Our preschool and children's leaders strive to create a welcoming environment at Immanuel where children can grow in their faith as they play and learn and worship and serve. We believe that the church should partner with young families to nurture the faith of their children so that they will grow to love God with all their heart and soul, mind and strength.
Youth
This congregation views students as agents of ministry who are gifted by God to help Immanuel carry out our unique mission in the world. As we worship together, study God's Word together, serve together, and fellowship together, we are learning how to practice the radical, compassionate disicpleship taught by Jesus Christ.
Older Adults
Older adults are active in Sunday school classes, which meet for Bible study on Sunday, as well as for leisure activities and volunteering on other days. Older adults are vital to Immanuel’s efforts with our local ministry partners. Monthly programs bring speakers from throughout the city. Outings provide opportunities to socialize and learn together.
Education
We are a congregation that likes to think deeply together. Sunday School classes, Wednesday night programs, book discussions, seasonal Bible studies, and retreats are some of the ways we gather together to seek out God’s wisdom and discern God’s calling as individuals and as a congregation.
Library
Currently the library is open on Sunday morning before and after the worship service at 10:30am. When regular weekday events resume post-COVID, the library will be open on Wednesday evening from 4:30pm–7:00pm. Also, when the church office is open during the week, access to the library is available.
Spaces
With our beautiful building and grounds we seek to create a spiritually inviting environment for members and guests alike. Our Chapel space provides opportunities for creative worship, the Children’s prayer room and playground allow for Godly play, and our columbarium invites rest and reflection.
