Holy Week at Immanuel Baptist Church
Throughout the last two months our worship has focused on the seven signs in the gospel of John. This particular series of miracles serve as narrative signposts that point to Jesus’ identity as the Messiah (Hebrew) or the Christ (Greek).
We will explore another organizing principle at work in John’s gospel during Holy Week, the seven “I Am” statements, in which Jesus describes the role or function he plays in the lives of his followers. For example, Jesus states, “I am the bread of life,” “I am the light of the world,” and “I am the good shepherd.” The seven “I Am” Statements will be the subject of our Holy Week Devotions and will structure the liturgy for our Good Friday Service.
You should receive a devotion in your email inbox for each day of Holy Week beginning with Palm Sunday. The devotions are composed by ministerial staff and invited guests. If you are not already on the list, please contact Tammy Drolsum at 615-297-5356 or office@ibcnashville.org,
There will be no meal or program on Wednesday of this week; instead we will gather at 5 p.m. in Fellowship Hall on Maundy Thursday (April 2) to eat together and observe the Lord’s Supper in the Chapel at 6 p.m. Please call the church office for a dinner reservation by Monday, March 30th at 615-297-5356 or email office@ibcnashville.org.
On Good Friday (April 3), we will gather around the columbarium at 6 p.m. for a contemplative service with reflections, hymns, and a communal procession with the cross to the front porch of the church. Vine Street Christian Church will join us again this year for our Good Friday remembrances.
On Easter Sunday (April 5), Christ is risen indeed! Sunday School is at 9:15 a.m. and Worship is at 10:30 a.m. Please bring flowers for the 8-foot cross, which will be set up on the portico at the Belle Meade entrance to the sanctuary. This year, we also invite you to bring your Lenten bracelets to add to our flower cross (if you wish). The Easter Egg Hunt will take place after worship on the front lawn for children in grades K-5. Preschoolers will hunt in the colonnade courtyard. Guests are welcome!
